CP Nel Museum celebrated International Museum Day by hosting a speech evening contest with six local High/secondary schools on the 26th of May 2022 after two years due to COVID-19.
18 Learners from Oudtshoorn High, Bridgton Secondary, Protea High, Morester Secondary, Fezekile Secondary and Auriel College took part in the speech evening, where they made five-minute-long presentations in front of their peers, teachers, parents, community members and 3 adjudicators. The five winners will in September 2022 compete at the regional level with other finalists from Beaufort West Museum, George Museum and Dias Museum (Mosselbay)
The purpose of the international Museum day is to raise awareness about the fact that Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding and cooperation and the objective of the speech evening is to teach learners public speaking and presentation skills
The five winners are Briance’ Carelse from Oudtshoorn High (5th place), Lenicah Maarman from Auriel College (4th place), Tamlyn Manchest from Bridgton Sec (3rd place), Wendolene Booysen from Protea High (2nd place) and Jaydene Pietersen from Auriel College (1st place)
